A first statement about the events of 20th January

Today, the 20th January 2025, some of the Antifascists accused in the
Budapest-Trials have given themselves up to the police. Until then, the
police hadn’t managed to catch them.
Some decided to stay underground.

For 2 years, the police has bullied and  observed  them, their families
and their social surrounding, trying to drive them into a corner.
With public and administrative prosecution, over 20 house searches, SEK
(militarized special forces of the german police) interventions,
observations and attempts to make people snitch, the authorities used
the full collection of measures. We have already seen these methods been
used against the antifascist/left scene since years.
Additionally, the threat of up to 24years of prison, the kidnapping of
Maja to Hungary and the accusation of attempt murder against Hannah have
further escalated the situation.

Despite the massive repression, the decision to give oneself up to the
police shouldn’t be seen as weakness or capitulation.
Its rather a self-determined step towards another chapter in this trial.
Both going to prison and going underground can be a political decision,
not a free choice,  but still self-determined.
In the history of left struggles, prisons have always been central part
in social and political conflicts.

We won’t participate in speculative rumors about the reasons to give
oneself up to the police. And we ask everyone not to do so neighter.

We live in a world where antifascist actions are necessary.
In a world where we need to get up and  act as a movement, again and
again.
In a world that sometimes forces us to take difficult decisions, with no
ideal solutions. For the last 2 years, the accused people had to decide:
prison or underground.
Which way to go is a decision, only themselfs can take.

In deepest compassion and solidarity, we think of the accused people,
their families and friends.
We won’t leave you alone.
Until you’re all free again.
Until all prisons are burned to ashes.

So much for now.
